The Calgary Zoo manages a diverse collection of animals representing many geographic areas of the world – and it takes a small army of dedicated zoo staff to take care of everything for the animals and over 1.2 million visitors each year. Caribou have large hooves that spread out, acting like snowshoes and also as handy scoops to dig in the snow for food. Sharp edges on their hooves provide excellent traction on ice and rock.
